In 2001, I married a wonderful man named Ashley and sealed my fate in the fruit business.
Ashley’s large, hard working Chinese-Filipino family have been purveyors of fruit since the 1980’s. They sourced, processed and pureed the best fruit for some of the largest food producers in the Philippines and beyond.
Honed in this environment, Ashley learnt how and where to source succulent and fragrant tropical fruits. More importantly, he learned the process of extracting the perfect balance of texture, acidity, and natural sweetness – the basis of an irresistible puree or fruit juice.
I come from a family business as well – we are distributors to big retailers. From my side of the family, I learned how to understand the market and give people what they want. I learned to trust my instincts, always look for the best quality, and go to market with products that we ourselves love.
With our combined knowledge, we started Sun Tropics in 2002. We wanted to serve the Filipino market in the US by giving them the fruit flavors that we all grew up with, loved, and missed.
It didn’t take long before people started raving about our products. We realized that other cultures love the same fruits that we do – our Latin American and Asian cousins have also come on board to enjoy our true-to-the-fruit flavor.
We’re proud of the family of products we’ve created. We are grateful to you, the families who choose to make SunTropics a part of your weekly basket. We’re thrilled when we hear of young people learning about their heritage from our products.
From our family to yours – maraming salamat!
Sun Tropics started in 2002 with the vision of bringing the best of the Philippines fruits to the Asian population in the US. We wanted to bring the rich fruit flavors and textures from the homelands to the US kitchen tables. Today, SunTropics are not only available in Asian supermarkets but also in traditional supermarkets, specialty markets, and club stores. We continue to strive to bring quality and true to the fruit products to our Fans and beyond.
